BU97 Best Player of the First Round (2008/9) – Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza

Following the successful event which saw Ronnie Hartvig being rewarded by our group as Best Player for last season, this time around it was decided that, in order to get in touch with different players more frequently, an award for the Player of the Round should be introduced.

Group members were invited to cast their vote, quoting three players, first to third preference. The player with the greatest number of points was then chosen to be rewarded. Jean-Pierre Mifsud Triganza was the one to obtain more then the rest of his team mates. On Friday, January the ninth, Jean-Pierre was invited to join the group at the Birkirkara FC Bar where, after a brief speech by one of the members, he was presented with a commemorative token, similar to the one presented to Ronnie during the summer.

Although usually a striker is rated by the number of goals scored, the majority of the group members felt that Triganza was showing the right spirit in order to help the team in achieving a very respectable league position, which will hopefully be maintained, if not improved, till the end of the season. It has always been the case that the most important thing for us is that players show full commitment, as results can be both positive and negative. Jean-Pierre during this first round has sure been one of the most committed players on and off the pitch.

It was then his turn to address those present. Although Jean-Pierre is quite a timid guy, his few words were met by everyone’s acknowledgement. He first of all thanked all those involved for the prize he was awarded, he was really struck by the loyalty of our group to the team and club colours. He also stated that all his team mates appreciate our constant support, both during the matches and off match days. He finally, in a nostalgic manner, mentioned the golden years where the Birkirkara support was at its best. His dream, which is shared with all of as at BU97, is to see that kind of atmosphere at Ta’ Qali, hopefully in the near future.

We all hope that this appeal does not fall on deaf ears, as this young group of players really deserve passionate support from all those who have Birkirkara FC at heart!!
